Prestige and fine bubbles : Keyser-Kohll Crémant- A passion inspired by the terroir
Frank Keyser-Kohll

Situated on the heights of the picturesque village of Ehnen, the Keyser-Kohll family estate covers some 9 hectares of vines spread over the best terroirs of Ehnen, Wormeldange and Schengen. In 2011, Esther and Michel Kohll-Reuland passed the business on to Martine and Frank Keyser-Kohll, the third generation to run the estate. Since the 17th century, the Kohll family has been renowned in Luxembourg for its winemaking, which combines tradition, respect for the environment and expression of the terroir.

Frank Keyser-Kohll is part of a generation of experienced winemakers who have adopted a natural approach to vine cultivation. We've been working without herbicides for six years now," he tells us. This independent winemaker is inspired by the terroir he has inherited and is driven by a love of the product and quality.

In search of excellence

As the region's benchmark for quality, the estate works hard every day to achieve uncompromising quality. They offer a wide range of white, red and rosé wines, with grape varieties specific to the terroir including Auxerrois, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Pinot Noir and Saint Laurent. The minerality and fruitiness of the wines are due to the shell limestone soils in the Ehnen and Wormeldange areas and the Keuper and clay marl soils in the Schengen area.

The most popular wines are the Gris de Gris, a rather dry summer rosé with floral and fruity notes and light tannins, and the Pinot Blanc, a balanced wine that showcases the fruity expression of this subtle grape variety and is perfect with starters, fish bakes or veal steaks. Other highlights include the old vine Riesling 'Ehnen Wousselt' and the barrel-aged Saint Laurent, which has a pronounced roasted flavour and black fruit aromas.

We also produce three crémant cuvées: brut, rosé and prestige. The brut crémant is a blend of five grape varieties. Our prestigious crémant is called 'La Maîtrise' because it's a blend of special grapes: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. With a Champagne accent, it is characterised by longer production and ageing times," says Frank Keyser-Kohll.

Panoramic wine tasting terrace

Since 2016, the couple have been sharing their passion for wine with guests from all over the world. From May to September, Frank and Martine Keyser-Kohll welcome the public - whether locals, connoisseurs or wine tourists wishing to discover new grape varieties or unknown wines - to the heart of their estate, in their wine bar 'De Riefstack' and on their panoramic terrace. It is the ideal place to enjoy the breathtaking view over the Moselle valley while enjoying a plate of wine or a tarte flambée accompanied by a glass of wine,' explains Frank Keyser-Kohll.

Crémant, a symbol of the Grand Duchy

Crémant is a success story in Luxembourg. It is the Luxembourg equivalent of the French champagne. Like the méthode champenoise, crémant is made from grapes harvested by hand and fermented in the bottle. It meets very strict regulations. Since 1991, Crémant luxembourgeois has been an incomparable product of the highest quality. Not only does it impress juries at international competitions, it also delights the general public with its many varieties. Today, it remains the drink of choice to toast our special moments,' concludes Frank Keyser-Kohll.
